It is time for IU Kokomo's annual Culture Bash! This event brings together the international diversity found on campus among our professors, students, staff, and community members! Join us for this event to see cultural performances, explore different cuisines via food trucks, and learn more about various cultures through more than 20 different country's booths!

Bind Cafe will be joining in on the festivities with delicious Korean Mexican Fusion dishes including:

  • Korean BBQ Tacos
  • Pulled Pork Nachos
  • Chips & Queso

Rhythm Connections: A Global Look Into Rhythm And Movement

Register now for fall dance classes with instructor Kei'Anna Anderson!

The classes will begin August 27th and will continue twice a month through November.

The dates of classes are as follows:

August 27th
September 10,24
October 1,8,15
November 12,19

This is the line-up for each session:

10:00-10:45 will be for ages 3-6. This class will max out at 12.
11:15-12:30 will be for ages 7-11. This class will max out at 15.
1:00-2:00 will be for ages 12 and up. This class will max out at 15.

Class Costs:

Fall Season: $100
Monthly: $25
Individual Classes: $12.50

Summer Silo Series

Friday, August 26, 2016, 7:30pm - 9:30pm

For three nights this summer, Healthy Homestead will host regional musicians on their "stage", the base of an old silo at Ripberger Farm in Kokomo, Indiana. BYOLC (Bring Your Own Lawn Chair) and enjoy a casual evening on the lawn.
Bind Cafe will be on location selling:

  • Korean BBQ Tacos
  • Pulled Pork Nachos
  • Chips & Queso
  • Elote
  • Dulce de Leche Churros
  • Rhubarb Limeade.

American Sign Language/English as a Second Language Meet Up

Beyond Borders Language Learning Center will be hosting a meetup for those people interested in American Sign Language and English as a Second Language. If you would like to learn more about these languages, a member of the deaf/hard of hearing community, a sign language interpreter or an English to Speakers of Other Languages instructor (ESOL), please join us! Our ASL instructor, Becky, and our ESL coordinator, Elizabeth, will be present during the meeting to answer any questions! We hope to see you there!

The New Jim Crow Book Study & Discussion

 

The New Jim Crow Reading Group will begin a necessary and relevant conversation about the main issues addressed in the poignant book by Michelle Alexander: the origins of mass incarceration in the US; the racialized structure of the US justice system; the aftermath and legacy of mass incarceration. The conversation will be led and motivated by group participants with hopes of drawing connections to recent events and creating strategies for our community.
